San Diego’s 2012 St. Patrick’s Day 10K was cold, wet, and windy! Runners and walkers of the 6.2 mile race completed one full lap of Fiesta Island before finishing in Mission Bay Park where Stone Brewing Company beer and Domino’s Pizza greeted them. Click to read more!

The 2012 Mission Trails 10K and 5K trail race, organized by the Sun Strides Foundation, led runners through a challenging 6.2 or 3.1 mile course over dirt, rocks, bridges, and even mountains. San Diego Runner’s race photographers were on hand to capture all of the fun.

The rain held off and the skies remained overcast. Saturday, February 11 was a another perfect morning for some San Diego trail running. The 2012 Sun Strides Black Mountain Summit 7K trail run started shortly after 9 a.m. The race began at the end of Sundevil Way, next to Mount Carmel High School. The challenging
South Shores Park hosted over 700 runners and walkers on Saturday morning, February 4th, for the 2012 Super Run 10K and 5K run/walk. The event, which is organized by Kathy Loper Events, raises funds to support Water for Children Africa and Compassion for African Villages. Race results have been posted here. Photos are available on

The 27th annual Bonita 5000 brought with it over 200 runners and a new course record of 14:28 for the 3.1 mile course.
It seems from almost any point in San Diego you can look and see the 1,554 ft tall summit of Black Mountain. The Black Mountain Open Space Park is home to 2,300 plus acres of hills, ridges, and canyons complete with miles of trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking. The third annual Sun Strides Black Mountain Summit 7K took runners to the top of this peak before they turned around and retraced their steps all the way back down.
The San Dieguito Half Marathon and 5K, often touted as one of the finest running events in San Diego County, drew over twenty-two hundred runners to the 8:00 A.M. starting line. The challenging but scenic course started and finished at San Dieguito Park and led runners through the hilly streets of Rancho Santa Fe.

It was a day for big wins at the 2011 US Cross Country National Championships held at Mission Bay Park. Shalane Flanagan earned her fifth cross country title in the women’s race while Aisling Cuffe crushed the junior womens field by 26 seconds.
For the ninth year in a row now, the Purefitness Run For The Hungry 10K/5K has hit the streets on Thanksgiving morning to celebrate fitness and to support those in need. The event is organized by long time race director Kathy Loper and benefits the San Diego Food Bank and Foodmobile, and program of the Jewish Family Service.
