On March 24, 2012, Balboa Park will host the 8th annual San Diego Race for Autism. From the official race site, “The 5K run/walk and 1 mile family fun run is the ONLY autism race that donates 100% of proceeds back to the San Diego community. The race is produced by the National Foundation for Autism Research (www.NFAR.org), a local nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of children and their families affected by autism right here in San Diego.”


1st Annual Flight Line Dash 10K, 5K, & 1K

“On Saturday, January 21, 2012, the MCAS Mirarmar OWC invites the San Diego community to experience our first annual Flight Line Dash. This is a 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk with a 1K kids run, the “Aviator Scramble!” The event will take place along side the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Flight Line and around the beautiful hills of the open space and fish pond on base.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds to help provide educational scholarships to our military dependents. The military members and their families are an integral part of the community here in Southern California. All proceeds go directly to the OWC Education Scholarship fund. We hope you will join our efforts in strengthening our community by joining us to run or walk aboard MCAS Miramar.”

27th Annual Bonita 5000 Race Results

On Saturday June 18, 2011, the Bonita Road Runners (BRR) held the 27th annual Bonita 5000 at Rohr Park off of Sweetwater Road in Bonita, CA. Over 200 runners toed the line for what turned out to be the fastest Bonita 5000 yet. The mostly flat, 3.1 mile, USATF Certified course, which circles Rohr Park, has become a staple for road racers in the South Bay neighborhoods of San Diego. The early morning clouds, cool temperatures, and lack of strong winds made for optimal race conditions.


Thorpe Cup Race To Be Held In San Diego

The prestigious Thorpe Cup, the annual international team decathlons between the USA and Germany, is coming to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. The series will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14 from 11:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A Facebook page has been created where event details will be posted. 2011 USATF Dirt Dog Cross Country Series Schedule

San Diego’s favorite cross-country race series is back! The 2011 USATF Dirt Dog Cross Country Series schedule has been posted. The series kicks off with the Wild Duck 5K on Saturday August 27 at Guajome Park and ends with the Championship 4 Miler held at Mission Bay on Saturday November 12. San Diego Summer Nights Track and Field Series

Due to popular demand, the San Diego Summer Nights Track and Field Series is back for its second year. The race series raises awareness of local track and field events and is open to the public. Registration is only $10 per meet and allows a participant to enter as many events as they choose. Come test your fitness on the track in short course sprints of 100 and 200 meters, middle distance of 800 meters to a mile, or try long distances of 3000 or 5000 meters. The series will take advantage of local tracks around the county.

San Diego State track and field head coach Shelia Burrell has announced the participating teams for the 2011 Aztec Invitational presented by Sheraton Mission Valley.

The two-day meet, which will take place on March 18-19, 2011, features a field that includes two-time defending national champion Texas A&M, UCLA , BYU, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois, Prairie View A & M and fellow West Coast powers Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State and elite athletes representing the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center.

Sather began his one hundred day journey across America shortly after inspiring a small audience by telling his life story and encouraging people to “Dream Big, Act Big”. So what’s the big deal about a another motivational speaker traveling across the country with his message of self-empowerment? Unlike other speakers, Croix Sather will be running.

2011 Sun Strides Black Mountain Summit 7K Race Results

It seems from almost any point in San Diego you can look and see the 1,554 ft tall summit of Black Mountain. Its dark color and microwave antennas stand out in plain view. The Black Mountain Open Space Park is home to 2,300 plus acres of hills, ridges, and canyons complete with miles of trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking. The third annual Sun Strides Black Mountain Summit 7K took runners to the top of this peak before they turned around and retraced their steps all the way back down.


Dirt Devil Racing Announces 2011 Trail Race Calendar

The San Diego Running Institute, in conjunction with Dirt Devil Racing, announce the race dates and locations for their upcoming 2011 trail racing season. The Dirt Devil Racing Series, a trail racing group sponsored by the San Diego Running Institute, will be holding five races during the 2011 year. All races are held on local San Diego County trails and are limited to approximately 250 participants.
