San Diego’s 2012 St. Patrick’s Day 10K was cold, wet, and windy! The 6.2 mile race, which is celebrating its 32nd anniversary, began on Mission Bay Drive near the Hilton Hotel, and led runners and walkers around one full lap of Fiesta Island before finishing in Mission Bay Park. Beer from Stone Brewing Company, fresh Domino’s Pizza, and Irish-themed medals awaited the finishers. Call it the luck of the Irish, but the rain held off for the 2-mile and 4-mile run/walk, which started at 7:45, 10 minutes before the 10K.

The front of the race spread out quickly with a small pack of men taking the lead early on. Eventually Leandro Santillan pulled away and won with a time of 33:17 (5:22/mile pace). Brandon Pomerantz (33:39) and Ryan Suarez (34:17) finished 2nd and 3rd.

In the women’s race, Nicole Blalock of Huntington Beach, CA took the win with a time of 38:21 (6:11/mile pace). Only two seconds decided the race for 2nd and 3rd between Caela Timinsky (38:47) and D’Arcy Harley (38:49).

The top three runners in each age division received colorful sweatshirts as awards.

Complete race results are posted on the Kathy Loper Events website.
